Alien Body

For the alien body I decided to be different and try to create a female body.

Making a female body from scratch is a bit of a tricky task if you don’t know anatomy well; However, thanks to Mudbox, it isn’t to bad to make from the default masculine body that it provides.

Here are both the maya and the mudbox verions I made:

Here is the maya model with the wireframes (the quad draw is incomplete):

The part’s of the body that I found tricky were the hips and the breasts, which were the only parts that I really needed to change on the body.

I could’ve done this two ways, the way that I did it was by setting the sub division level to 0 and using the grip tool to extrude parts out and thin parts in. This method is shaky mainly because the sub division level 0 for the default body is a bit too much topology to make subtle changes that look good on the model.

Another way that I could’ve done this was to, in Maya, model and arrange shapes into the body parts and then use the quad draw tool to layer an entire new mesh over it, then just smooth around it to make it look close to reference, being an actual woman’s body.

This method is actually easier than the mudbox way and arguably would’ve been best since I could’ve edited the body afterwards by transferring it into mudbox by converting the file into an obj when finished…but ultimately I preferred editing mudbox’s default body because it was close to realistic in comparison to mine.
